Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap that splits a bet into two parts, giving one team a fractional goal advantage or disadvantage to remove the draw option.
- Banker
- A selection that is considered highly likely to win, often used in accumulator bets to increase potential payout.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for placing bets, used to manage how much you can afford to risk.
- Bet Builder
- A feature that allows you to combine multiple selections from the same match into a single custom bet.
- Bonus Wagering Requirement
- The amount you must bet before withdrawing bonus funds or winnings from a promotional offer.
- Bookmaker
- A company or platform that sets odds and accepts bets on sporting events.
- Cash Out
- The option to settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss based on the current odds.
- Correct Score
- A bet that predicts the exact final score of a match.
- Double Chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible match outcomes (win, draw, loss) in one wager.
- Free Bet
- A promotional token that lets you place a bet without using your own money, with any winnings usually withdrawable after meeting terms.
- Half-Time/Full-Time
- A bet that asks you to predict both the score at halftime and the final score of the match.
- Hedge
- Placing a second bet on the opposite outcome to reduce risk or secure a guaranteed profit after an initial bet.
- Juice
- The commission that a sportsbook charges on a bet, built into the odds so the book makes a profit regardless of the result.
- Kelly Criterion
- A formula that tells you how much of your bankroll to bet when you have an advantage over the odds.
- KYC
- Know Your Customer – the process of verifying your identity and age to comply with legal regulations and prevent fraud.
- Live Betting
- Betting on a match while it is in progress, with odds that change as the game unfolds.
- Market
- A specific betting category or event you can wager on, such as the match result, total goals, or player props.
- Moneyline
- A bet on which team will win the match outright, with odds expressed as a positive or negative number.
- Odds
- The numerical representation of the likelihood of an outcome, determining how much you can win relative to your stake.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals scored in a match will be higher or lower than a number set by the sportsbook.
- Overround
- The total of all possible outcomes' chances in a market, which adds up to more than 100% because the sportsbook includes a built-in profit margin.
- Parlay
- A single bet that links two or more individual bets and pays out only if all of them win.
- Self-Exclusion
- A tool that lets you temporarily block yourself from betting on the platform for a set period to help control gambling.
- Stake
- The amount of money you place on a bet.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered by the sportsbook are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving an expected positive return.
